ASA Election!

Dear Sociologist readers,

Today the ASA election begins. In addition to the usual slate of candidates for the presidency, vice presidency, main committees, etc., there is also a vote on the proposed dues increase & reform. In response to a large petition campaign, ASA published a set of responses documenting the need for the dues increase here. I recommend reading both the initial transparency petition and the responses before making your vote. Additionally, Tina at Scatterplot has just published a nice list of election resources and guides.

Finally, if you happen to be a member of the Comparative and Historical or Economic Sociology Sections, please vote for me for student representative. If elected, I promise that I will blog about the section meetings and solicit input in this space. I also promise not to skip the council meetings to gamble the section budget at the craps table. Seriously, I don’t even know how to play craps.

Thanks and see you all in Vegas!

You got my vote twice. As patronage, I’d like to be in charge of your “pay-to-play” scheme.
